Science (K-12)

Despite being considered one of the coolest subjects, many students find science to be difficult to fully grasp. It often requires students to memorize certain details, analyze how things react to one another, and think creatively yet reasonably. The belief that one branch of science may not directly transfer to another can add to a student's frustration.

The Significance of Science

Many of us began using science at a very early age and will continue to do so throughout our lives. The person who mixes different flavors of juice together in hopes of finding a combination that tastes great is using Chemistry. Drinking orange juice to help fight the flu or not drinking milk because it causes pain are decisions based on Biology. The quarterback determining how hard to pass the ball to his receiver in order to beat the coverage is using Physics. Choosing the right temperature and length of time for cooking a steak, forming an exercise plan to gain muscle or lose weight, and picking the right time to go fishing are all examples of using science in everyday life.

Active Learning

We believe in going beyond simply memorizing vocabulary words and the Periodic Table and offering linking scientific concepts to the world in which we live. During our collaborative work developing the personalized learning plan, our Education Specialists will identify specific things in a student's world and help them see how the subject material applies to their life. The key is to make science relatable through instructional conversations, thinking maps, and other engaging methods that promote active involvement in scientific learning.
